Studies of an ermine population in southern Ontario

327 live captures of 16 males, 11 females on 95 ha over 22 months. Population stable at 6/sq km/month (1/17 ha), 11 in preferred habitats. Most resident <1 year. Male ranges 20-25 ha, female 10-15 ha, with overlap. Males travelled about more than females. Distribution supported assumption of polygamous males. All females gave birth in season of 1974.
