Red deer

The preferred habitat of the red deer is open, grassy glades in forest. Red deer are most active at dawn and dusk, but may feed more during hours of darkness where they experience frequent disturbance. They are grazers and browsers, with more woody browse and tree shoots taken when feed is scarce.

Red deer were released near Esk in the late 19th century. Their established range covers in the area around the headwaters of the Brisbane, Mary and Burnett rivers.

Red deer are a non-declared animal
