Opossum hunting and kiwis

This is a reply to an article by Brian Reid, which was based on information supplied by possum hunters in response to a questionnaire. The author questions the assumptions made in the article by Reid and points to reasons for under-estimation of numbers of kiwis killed. Little is known of kiwis in the wild and the effect possum trapping has on their populations. Trapping can be intensive and still safe to kiwis if practised with care, as on Kapiti Island. (DGK)
