Nature Conservation Act

The object of this act is the conservation of nature. This is to be achieved by an integrated and comprehensive conservation strategy that includes: the gathering of information and community education; the dedication and declaration of protected areas; the management of protected areas; the protection of native wildlife and its habitat; the use of protective wildlife and areas to be ecologically sustainable; recognition of interest of Aborigines and Torres Straight Islanders in protected areas and native wildlife; and cooperative involvement of land-holders in the conservation of nature.
