Fisher and ermine at Conard Fissure, Arkensas, much further south than present range. Some Pleistocene fossils of Mustela in western USA replaced by different subspecies, in other places (eg Rancho la Brea) indistinguishable from the subspecies found there now [since Hall’s time, distinctions between subspecies considered less important] .
