HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND NEW ORGANISMS ACT

The purpose of this Act is to protect the environment, and the health and safety of people and communities, by preventing or managing the adverse effects of hazardous substances and new organisms. Definitions of a new organism include genetically modified organisms, as well as any species that was not present in New Zealand prior to 29/07/1998.

Regulates the use of controlled vertebrate poisons, including pesticides such as 1080.
